Headaches and Hand Grenades

It’s done. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

After a particularly atrocious week of raiding we finally put our collective feet down. Well, Illidarian did, with some careful guidance from myself and some others. Basically we’ve had it.  If you’ve been following this blog (or Illy’s) you’ve read about the events leading up to this. We made it clear from the start that we were a raiding guild interested in progression. And still some people in the guild signed up who didn’t want progression. They want a casual/social raid group, which is fine, except that’s not what we are.

So it’s no wonder that our DPS sucks. Some of those people don’t want to be in this kind of raid and are not willing to put forth the effort to succeed. It’s unfortunate that they waited this long to tell us. And even that was at our prodding. So here’s what happened this week. We continually wiped on Deathwhisper (which was on farm for us recently). People in the raid have been asking for us to actually pull the people aside who are not performing well and give them some constructive feedback and tips, etc. to help them get on track. So this week we did it.

AND OH MY GOD!

You’d think I just killed their favorite pet or something. Now I was very careful to do this criticism in the privacy of forum private messages. I was careful to keep it non-personal, to the point, and non-confrontational. The replies that I got amazed me. Evidently I need to mind my own business and just heal the tank. I am an overzealous hot head who enjoys calling people out and embarassing them. etc. etc. I could go on, but you get the picture.

I’m sick of it. Illidarian and I tried. It’s not working.

So we’re implementing the plan that we came up with a few weeks ago, along with a few suggestions from the Inside Azeroth crew. Illidarian dropped that hand grenade yesterday on our forums. We’re dividing into two raid groups. One for progression for those who want to do that, and one for casual raiding for those who want to do that. The casual raid will also be used for gearing up alts for those members who need to do that. But the rules for that raid will be a little more lax and they will not be doing progression content. They will farm Ony, ToC, VoA, etc.

As far as the progression group goes slots will be available by competition. That is, we will select the people who perform the best and those people will be on the team. If someone new wants to join the team that’s fine, but they have to outperform the lowest member who is on the team in order to take that slot. This group will be pushing through Icecrown Citadel and beyond. This team will be a hard core raid group.

On a side note Illidarian had a guest shot on the Inside Azeroth podcast over the weekend where she talks a little about our raid problems. You should go check it out.
